The CERP project 'Collective bargaining and environmental responsibility: Challenges and perspectives for transport and the public sector', co-funded by the European Union, is to improve expertise in the field of industrial relations by analysing the role of social dialogue and collective bargaining in promoting, creating and implementing sustainable development policies at national and European level and Just transition mechanisms in 6 countries – Spain, Portugal, Poland, Greece, Serbia, North Macedonia. The focus of research is limited on implementation of European Green Deal policies as a framework policy with a special emphasis on national level policies including here transport and public sector.

Timeline: November 2023 - June 2025

The tasks of the project are:
- to examine the impact of the European Green Deal policy on collective agreements and agreements negotiated at national and sectoral level within the public sector and the transport sector; highlighting the respective innovations or measures introduced in the negotiation in this regard.
- to examine the extent of the measures implemented and the role and contribution of the social partners in facilitating the transition to a low-carbon economy.
- to draw conclusion on the role of collective bargaining in relation to the challenges posed by the green transition and to share examples of best practices in this regard.

Activities:
In the first phase of the project, which will last until October, research will be carried out, including an analysis of the foundational data and individual interviews with entrepreneurs, trade unions and politicians. On the basis of the analysis of the results and the conclusions of the research, a position paper will be prepared with proposals for good practices to help better use collective bargaining in the pursuit of a just green transition. The results of the research phase will be disseminated to social partners and other stakeholders at nationally organised conferences and at a European seminar, as well as online.
