PASOS members, including the Institute of Public Affairs, have issued a statement calling on EU foreign ministers and commissioners to swiftly lift visas for citizens of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova.

In the statement released on 27 February PASOS suggests that the EU should send a clear signal acknowledging the European choice of nationals of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova by lifting short-term Schengen visas as soon as these countries sign EU association agreements. PASOS also urges EU Member States to immediately ease conditions of issuing Schengen visas (waiving the fees, reducing waiting times and introducing transparent application procedures). The statement encourages them to issue national visas with the minimum delay and conditions. PASOS members and the Board conclude that the freedom to travel will enable citizens of the three Eastern Partnership states to “see the benefits of democracy, the rule of law, and freedom of expression”.
