IPA expert on a politicisation of the visa-free movement

As of April 2014, nationals of Moldova holding biometric passports may travel to the EU without visas.

It is expected that following a positive assessment of Ukraine’s reforms by EU Member States, the citizens of that country will also be covered by a visa-free regime. Analysing the results of forecasts of migration from countries of Eastern Partnership to the EU, IPA expert Piotr Kazmierkiewicz notes that lifting the visa requirement for eastern neighbours is not likely to produce a significant rise in migration.

In a chapter of the book published by the Centre for Eastern Studies,
the expert points to a possible politicisation of the visa-free movement issue due to a rise in anti-immigrant sentiment in several EU Member States.
