Discrimination tests, a sort of natural experiment, have most often been used to measure unequal treatment in access to housing (both in renting and purchasing). Their results have formed the basis for developing a series of ecommendations for social policies in various countries, and have also helped to publicize the problem of unequal treatment of immigrants, people of non-white skin color and those from diverse ethnic backgrounds on the housing market. The design and results of tests carried out in recent years in the United States and Canada, selected European countries and Poland are presented below, as are a set of recommendations geared toward preventing unequal treatment in access to housing
