Algorithms and Agendas: The Digital Fight for Poland’s Presidency 2025

Download
The 2025 presidential election in Poland took place amidst deep political polarization, persistent geopolitical tensions, and unresolved disputes over the rule of law. The shift in power following the 2023 parliamentary elections and the lack of a stable parliamentary majority made the president's role—particularly his veto power—critical to the implementation of reforms and the pursuit of a coherent foreign policy. A record number of thirteen candidates were registered in the election.

In the second round, the centrist Civic Platform candidate Rafał Trzaskowski faced the Law and Justice-backed independent candidate Karol Nawrocki, who ultimately won by a narrow margin. Social media played a particularly significant role in the election campaign—as a tool for communication, mobilization, and the construction of identity narratives. Candidates utilized various platforms (Facebook, X, TikTok, Instagram), tailoring their messages to their target groups and employing distinct narrative strategies.

The 2025 Presidential Election Social Media Monitoring Report provides an in-depth analysis of the online dimension of the campaign in both rounds. It includes data on candidate activity, the nature of published content, audience engagement levels, the scale and content of paid political advertising, and instances of potentially inauthentic or artificially generated online traffic, which may raise questions about the transparency and equality of the digital electoral battlefield.
