The success of the Eurosceptics in the elections to the European Parliament in 2014 has not translated into their influence on decisions taken by this institution. They have not taken any important positions nor have they had an impact on the results of the first votes. This does not mean, however, that they have not left their imprint or that they will not leave their imprint on European debates. Their strength – derived from support from the public that they enjoy in individual member states – affects the subject matter and the style of political discussions in more than just one country, and influences the actions of national governments during EU negotiations
