Intraparty democracy in Poland - diagnosis and recommendations


The project is aimed to diagnose the condition of intraparty democracy in Poland. The project schedule covers a preliminary expertise that will help to identify all controversies and dilemmas related to governance inside the political parties. Furthermore, this expertise is supposed to examine Polish law in terms of the instruments that could relate to the functioning of political parties. This expertise will be prepared by professor Marek Chmaj, lawyer and political scientist who specializes in political parties.

Activities undertaken within this project will be focused on the following issues:
  • decisions concerning political party program,
  • recruitment and selection of the candidates for the party offices and electoral lists,
  • the representation of women in political party structures and on electoral lists,
  • financial management.

Within the framework of this project the IPA arranges also a seminar that will be addressed to Polish politicians, scholars, journalists and others interested in. The diagnosis of intraparty democracy in Poland and recommendations contained in the expertise will be treated as the material for further discussion during this meeting.
The result of the project will be described in Final Report. According to the project schedule the report will be published in the end of July 2011.
