Jacek Kucharczyk, director of research at The Institute of Public Affairs in Warsaw, will present an analysis of Polish – U.S. relations in recent years, with special focus on changing public opinion towards the United States and global American leadership. What are Polish expectations concerning the emerging new agenda of U.S. – EU relations under an Obama administration. What was the general response in Poland to Obama’s victory in November? Can Poland and other Central Europeans make a contribution to the global agenda of the new American administration?
The current Polish foreign policy agenda seems dominated by regional issues, especially the Russian resurgence and the situation in the post-Soviet area, possibly putting Poland at odds with its key European partners, such as Germany. Do differences among Europeans suggest the “old/new” Europe divide of the early Bush era or are they, rather, a part of a more complex problem for the development of a common European foreign policy?
